Just a sneak preview…

August 28th, 2008

Of some to the gorgeous prints I’m using for my first batch of OSFM fitted nappies. They are almost done. It has been slow going due to my sleep deprivation, a reflux baby, a wicked toddler, an overactive 4 year old, an underactive husband and a know-it-all 7 year old! LOL It’s a wonder I have anything done actually. One look inside my laundry at present and you’d doubt whether in fact I have actually got anything done lately. I don’t know why we need so many clothes to be honest. Time for another wardrobe cull I think. ;)

It’s on again…

August 20th, 2008

The Great Down Under Nappy Hunt is on again this September and I’m sponsoring! Woo hoo! I missed the last one due to lingering morning sickness and family commitments so I’m really happy to be able to take part this time. I’m planning my re-opening and launch of my new OSFM design to co-incide with the Hunt. Here’s a picture of Cooper wearing a replica of the prize I’ve submitted for the Hunt. I like the finished nappy so much I made another one for him. ;)

So it’s action stations here! My first batch of OSFM nappies are well under way and looking lush! You can expect to see some gorgeous fabrics in the mix as well as cotton velour outers and linings in microfleece, bamboo velour, cotton velour and hemp velour! Fingers crossed they will be well received. I’m loving using them on Cooper, in fact besides a couple of Crafty Caterpillar nappies and Pumpkin Pockets, they are all I use!

It fits!!

July 10th, 2008

I was very pleasantly surprised to find that my new One Size Fits Most design actually fits Cooper despite him still being well under 4kg’s in weight.

I was anticipating the nappy would fit from 4-4.5kg but here it is shown on Coop at 3.6kg (approx 8lb). And the fit is good! No gaping legs and nice and snug around the tum without being too tight on the smallest setting. And believe it or not this little milk monster needs all those layers! A full body layer of bamboo, quilt flannel and cotton velour in the nappy and another 6 layers of bamboo in the wetzone. He does like his milk! ;)  And now that I have replaced the hidden soaker with a full body layer of bamboo the nappy dries much faster now which is great considering the wet weather we are having at the moment.

Thanks everyone…

For all your well wishes and congratulations.

We’re having a lovely break and enjoying our babymoon with Cooper. Haven’t touched the sewing machine in a month now! Shock, horror! I am starting to feel the urge to sew again though, not much chance of that with a baby permanently attached to me, either feeding or slinging. I wouldn’t have it any other way though!

Cooper has been enjoying his cloth journey so far. His newborn nappies still fit but are heading off to a new home shortly as I have a heap of other nappies I can be using and plenty of new mumma’s to be in my homebirth group who can use them. The biggest surprise I’ve had yet is that my OSFM actually fitted him from 3.5kg! I wasn’t expecting that at all! Ok so it’s a little generous at that weight but it still fits and well enough for me to actually be using them.

Here are a few photos of Cooper’s newborn fluffy bum. First in a newborn Peep-o!, second in a snappi-able small Peep-o! and the last one taken at 3 days old - just because he’s so darn cute!

He’s here!

On Saturday the 14th June we welcomed the newest addition to our family.

Cooper Matthew

Born at home in water, weighing 7lb 10.5oz and absolutely perfect!

Have you seen what Nanny’s been knitting?

June 2nd, 2008

Nanny C (aka my mum) has started knitting again and this is her first offering. I just love these hand knitted dolls and animals. My girls love them too and have several of them including a mini lamby, koala and a gorgeous little dolly. She has also knitted a lovely brightly coloured clown for the new baby.

They are all knitted in acrylic yarn and gently stuffed with poly fibre fill so they are easy to care for and lovely and soft to cuddle. These cuties below are all available now in my store and at Wahmania with free postage.

A few newborn stash pics.

The collective stash...so far...

I said I would do this, although I’m not entirely sure who will be interested. LOL Here are some pictures of part of the stash I have for the new baby. This is newborn, small, OSFM sizes with a couple of mediums thrown in. I also have a couple of bags of Ellie’s leftover girly nappies but I’m not planning on taking them out of the cupboard unless this baby is another pink one. ;)

Now this is a pretty frugal stash in comparison to some. By that I mean that I basically haven’t bought any nappies but have made them myself. With funds tight and a cupboard full of fabric I can’t really justify spending a heap of money buying and anyway I enjoy making them!

So here goes…

 tiny newborn nappies

Eight teeny weeny little newborn Peep-O!’s These are flannelette outer and a full layer of bamboo fleece with the fleecy side against bub. They have an attached two layer bamboo booster inside.

Small nappies

These ones are the smalls, there are 12 in total. On the left are snappi-able smalls with an outer of cotton rich fleece (like sherpa), a full layer of bamboo fleece the same as the newborn size and an extra long, foldable attached bamboo booster inside. On the right are snaps closing smalls, flannelette or cotton outers, bamboo or velour linings, bamboo boosters.

my OSFM nappies

Above are my own Peep-O! OSFM nappies. These vary from organic cotton sherpa outers (making them snappi-able) with hemp velour lining to quilt cotton, quilt flannel and minky outers with linings including bamboo velour, hemp velour, cotton velour and microfleece (including lovely Malden Mills Pistachio microfleece). There are even a couple of AI2 OSFM Peep-O!’s in there. I have more of these cut out too, just waiting to be sewn including a couple of minky AI2’s and a couple more fitteds. I’m still experimenting with the booster configuration in these and will do my final testing on the new bub.

OSFM prototypes & mediums

These nappies (back left) are some of my OSFM prototypes (ok, rejects!) Already pre-loved by Ellie but still with plenty of life in them. The rest are medium size bamboo Peep-O!’s. The back right are pre-loved and still going strong, the front are newbies I really liked and just had to keep!

Other wahm made nappies

This is the extent of my purchased nappies in this stash (not including a heap of pink ones I have put away). I have 3 OSFA Pumpkin Pockets from the lovely Kath, my two gorgeous newbies from The Crafty Caterpillar’s Kelly, a medium Itti Bitti, side snap Very Baby, Cute Tooshies Cuddlebuns, Baby Beehinds and an Abby Gro from Cuddles ‘n Cloth. I’d love to be able to buy more but that will have to do for now. I do have a lot of other wahm-made nappies but they are mostly pink so are banished to the back of the cupboard.  ;)

Prefolds

Prefolds! Again mostly homemade bamboo and flannelette  prefolds but also some chinese cotton prefolds and a couple of Pumpkin Pocket re-fold prefolds in hemp.

There are more; terry flats, bamboo flats and heap of flannelette wipes, bamboo and velour breast pads, organic cotton sherpa wash cloths - all made by me but far to boring to take pictures of. Also a range of covers including crocheted soakers, knitted soakers, Eenee PUL covers, Fluffies cover, Wonderwrap OSFA PUL cover, a side snap Cloth’d Up PUL cover and Cheena-Bean fleece covers and flongies. So that’s it to date. Not very exciting compared to some but a very functional stash nonetheless.

A recent swap or two

June 2nd, 2008

I like swaps. I recently did a couple of swaps with some other lovely work at home mums.

Swap from The Crafty Caterpillar (formerly Caterpillar Cuties)

The first is a nappy swap I did with Kelly from Caterpillar Cuties now known as The Crafty Caterpillar.

I swapped her a cotton velour lined, large size bamboo Peep-O! in a cowboy print for a PUL, OSFA pocket nappy and a lush cotton knit/cotton velour lined fitted. Actually she was a bit naughty because she was only supposed to swap one for one but she sent me two instead and a bonus wipe. Thanks Kelly! :) I love them. Can’t wait to see your new store either.

The second swap was with the lovely Erin of My, My, My! She was after a Bed Bug night nappy and I was more than happy to make up a custom for her in return for a gorgeous little Smurf set for the new bub. She’s another generous one! She also sent a gorgeous appliqued purple shirt for Casey. I don’t have a picture of that because it’s in the wash at the moment.  I no sooner wash it then Casey has it back on again, she loves it! Thanks Erin! :) My hubby loves the Smurf set too. Don’t tell him I told you but when he was in primary school he had a whole collection of Smurf figurines (all except Lady Smurf of course). How do I know this? Well my best friend of the last 19 years used to sit behind him in class, he has no secrets from me! LOL

Customs, customs, I lurve customs!! :)

May 14th, 2008

Why? Because they give me a chance to work with fabrics and combinations that I might not otherwise use and because it’s always nice to create a specific nappy for a customer.

Here are some recently completed Bed Bug customs. I have two more Bed Bug’s to complete to list on my website and then I’m all done sewing for the shop until after bub is born.

I have lots of plans for the next 5 weeks including a chenille patchwork quilt for the baby, nappies (of course), bibs and matching pants and appliqued tops. Yes, big plans! LOL I wonder what I will actually manage to get done?

More on my OSFM

May 3rd, 2008

I’ve been testing this nappy for some months now and very soon I’ll be wrapping it up. Almost all the feedback is in and the overwhelming response has been great! Thank you to all my valued testers.

I thought I’d post a picture of the final prototype on my 14kg 2.5 year old. She toilet trained back at Easter but is always happy to model for me, as long as she gets to pat the nappy first. :)

This one I’m keeping for the new baby as the booster was sewn in a bit wonky. LOL, don’t you love the nappy stash made up of rejects! I promise I will make this baby some nappies that don’t qualify as seconds.

I’m not sure on a release date yet. I hope to get some stock made before the baby is born but with only 6 weeks to go I’m not sure if I will get there. I am kind of looking forward to doing some final testing on my own little guinea pig anyway.

And more pics…
